It was recently announced that Wickenburg will be seeking a new town manager. The business community should recognize this as an excellent opportunity. We should insist that the Town Council select someone who is out of the bureaucratic mold, is willing to take risk, and is a strong leader. The typical bureaucratic model rewards non risk takers and people who favor the status quo. Consequently, non leaders tend to rise to the top of the food chain. In the business world, however, risk takers and entrepreneurs rise to the top and become leaders. Bureaucrats quickly say, "you can't run government like a business." The fact is that many governments have been reinvented and are successfully running like a businesses. Our town is at a crossroads, and the business community should insist that the proper track is taken.
